Zero (again)

January 5th
Colac Bay
Distance: 0km
Steps: 11,000 (mostly from a relaxing walk on the beach, and around camp).

Another recovery, or zero, day today so not a lot to report. Still trying to get the blisters under control. Colac Bay is a small coastal settlement, the only shop is the local tavern if that's a useful indication of its size.

The temperature today was a fresh 16 degrees compared to mid 20s of the previous few days. So we wrapped up in our puffer jackets for a morning walk on the beach.
I say walk, but it's still more like a hobble. We returned from the beach via Isabel's Weaving Studio which had a large loom Isabel was using to make a rug. There were some amazing handmade jerseys, hats and scarves, too bulky for us to carry so we only bought a bookmark. We did also take some of her free merino wool - undyed, uncarded, basically fresh-plucked from a sheet - hoping this too will help our poor feet in the days to come.

The rest of the day was consisted of reading, playing cards, and a pint at the tavern.

The next few days take us to some more rugged country, so we may not be posting as regularly.

Tomorrow is to Martin's Hut, in the Longwood Forest, and after that to Merrivale.

  1. Your feet will heal - believe! What a place for a weaving studio. I bet she had some beautiful rugs. Next time you'll have to consider having items shipped rather than thinking about carrying more gear.
