(repost) Finally, a short day!
January 29th
Highland Creek Hut to Fern Burn Hut
Distance: 6km
Elevation: 545m ascent, 645m descent Steps: 13,000
Time: 7:30am-11:30am
Yep, that's right, we called it a day before noon!
Today just had one big hill, and while the highest point (1275) was the highest we've done yet, the total climb was much less. It was still strenuous, don't misunderstand! But we powered through in less than 2 hours! View from the top:
About an hour later, we got our first glimpse of Fern Burn Hut:
And of course the view from the front of our hut. Not too shabby! For the rest of today we just get to relax and enjoy the quiet - or as much as we get of it. The hut is fairly accessible and it is a weekend, so we are expecting a few day visitors and probably even some locals doing a single-night stay. We'll see. For now, we are relaxing in the shade on hut mattresses on the deck. Probably napping in the near future.
When you stand at the front of the hut you must realise how small you are in that towering landscape!Fantastic views.
ReplyDeletePrevious comment about the towering landscpe was from me (Mum). We are lucky that we get to see these photos.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, a repost from Jan 29th? At first I thought maybe you just entered the wrong date, but I don't think you actually backtracked all the way back to Fern Burn Hut. Bub
