Happy Thought for 2 August 2024
Have a Happy
Thought:
Hopefully you’ve
been able to catch some of this year’s Summer Olympics, and marvel over the
awesomeness that these athletes are showcasing for us.
One thing that can
often go overlooked though is the time and effort that goes into designing the
country uniforms for the opening and closing ceremonies. Often, these are
somewhat utilitarian outfits, but every once in a while, a country really takes
this opportunity to shine. For me, this year, Mongolia really brought
their A-game. Just LOOK at these works of art!
These were
designed and made by a Mongolian label, Michel & Amazonka, and each uniform
took up to 20 hours to make.

Perhaps the
Mongolian athletes and this fashion designer are merely channelling the
awesomeness of Mongolian culture, if this recent photo is anything to go by.
Check out this winning portrait photograph, that introduces us to “Aymoldir
Daiynbek, a 14-year old eagle huntress from the remote Altai mountains of
Western Mongolia. She follows the footsteps of her father and grandfather, and
was crowned the winner of the 2023 Golden Eagle Festival, in which hunters and
their golden eagles are tested based on speed, agility, and accuracy.”
