Happy Thought for 13 June 2025
Have a Happy Thought:
There are 64 hot air balloons in New Zealand.

There are also 95 snow groomers, and 148 heritage trains.

While I do not have a list of where to find each of these, you can see a count of petrol-powered vehicles and equipment in the country. This came from a really cool survey that also then analyses whether there are current, available, and affordable technologies to replace these with electric-powered equivalents.

Unfortunately, the three items I listed above are in the “not yet” column. But the technology is almost there to be able to electrify the 300 coffee roasters around the country.
Hmmm... I just realised that I’m setting up what sounds (and tastes?) like a really good road trip...
Closer to home, there is already technology that would allow us to collectively replace the 29,942 petrol-powered leaf blowers with their battery-powered equivalents, and all lead quieter lives. (This one is personal – I once lived next to a train station that had 5am trains Monday – Saturday. But we could never sleep in on Sundays because the church just on the other side of the train tracks had someone coming in with a leaf blower at 6am [SIX IN THE MORNING ON A SUNDAY] to clear the carpark. AAAARRRRRGGGHHHHHH! I’m over it, it’s fine. It’s been years now.)
Anyway, the whole report is really interesting and may be food for thought!
A quick note for those of you not in Aotearoa New Zealand: you might want to keep an eye out for one of the 6 wienermobiles in the world.
